Did You Know?

Did you know that you could be going blind and not even know it? That's what glaucoma does. It sneaks up on you very slowly over time. It's a leading cause of blindness in all adults over 60. But some people are especially at risk. If you're Black and over 40, you're up to five times more likely to get glaucoma. Or if you have a family history of glaucoma, you're also at high risk. Glaucoma can't be cured, but it can be controlled and the risk of blindness reduced-if glaucoma is detected and treated in time. That's why it's so important for people with an increased risk to have regular eye exams. Seattle glaucoma specialist, Howard Barnebey, MD is one of a very small group of local eye doctors dedicated to glaucoma and helping patients with this terrible eye disease.

The Willows Meeting

The annual Willows continuing education meeting was a resounding success! While the actual meeting is called The Glaucoma Symposium, it is commonly referred to as the Willows Glaucoma Meeting because of the location of the meeting at the Willows Lodge located in the wine district outside of Seattle Washington. Featured speaker, Dr. Murray Fingeret, a graduate of New England College of Optometry and national speaker and author, returned once again to collaborate with Dr. Barnebey.

Continuing education to the ophthalmic and optometric community has been one of the hallmarks of the Specialty Eyecare` Centre team since the practice was founded over 25 years ago.  The Glaucoma Symposium is just one of the cornerstones of Dr. Barnebey’s commitment to patient care and dedication to supporting the Optometric community.   Together, Howard Barnebey, MD and Murray Fingeret, OD, FAAO, pull together all the advancements and the new research on Glaucoma. Through their research and combined clinical experiences, they distill the facts into a series of dynamic presentations including lectures, journal review and clinical grand rounds.  The quality of the education has been so highly regarded throughout the medical community that the event is completely sold out weeks in advance of the early January meeting date.  Like most areas of medicine, the required knowledge base is expanding so rapidly, that the eye physician practitioner needs a resource to look towards to keep abreast of the latest practice standards.  Willows fulfills that role.
